History of "The Bison"
The Howard University Bison Yearbook was founded by Kelly Miller, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, doctor of law, and professor of math and sociology. An accomplished scholar and author, Miller wrote numerous books, pamphlets and magazine articles. With great love for Howard University and an appreciation for the fond memories he made at his Alma Mater, Miller saw it fit to establish a yearbook.
The first volume of the Bison Yearbook was published in 1914 and titled NIKH. It was brief, with no more than 50 pages, and featured photos of the senior class along with details of their postgraduate plans, information on student organizations, and superlatives for the "flirtiest" and "most intelligent."
Ninety-five years later, the Bison Yearbook continues to keep Miller's vision alive and chronicle the rich legacy of Howard University.
